Reality Recap Reunion The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays. Continues through April 5 2013

This Annoyance production, about a reunion of six strangers who lived together for the reality radio show Real Happenings Chicago, is pitched as improvisation. But, in the vein of its MTV source material, it can come off as staged, or at least stiff. There were definitely some funny moments, as when the cast would get up from their seats to reenact scenes of past conflict, but these were often too reliant on the stereotypical tropes of the genre: the self-obsessed man, the woman who doesn't eat, the one who's engaged, and the Mormon. The host would periodically interrupt the action with a brief advertisement for something disgusting—Absolut Baby Food vodka, for example—which didn't do much to retain listenership. —Hannah Gold
