Rebbesoul and Magic Carpet

When: Sat., Aug. 21, 9 p.m. 2010

Inspired by the haunting beauty of a prayer heard one night in synagogue, guitarist and studio session musician Rebbesoul began collecting and performing melodies from throughout the Jewish Diaspora, putting his own contemporary world beat stamp on them. His repertoire includes Sephardic romanceros in Ladino, Lubavitch niggunim, Ashkenazi nusach, Carlebach melodies and Mizrahi piyyutim. Transcending geographical boundaries, Magic Carpet is an exhilarating ride through the traditions of Africa, the Middle East, and India. They weave together traditional North African rhythms, Middle Eastern maqams, East African pentatonic scales, Indian ragas and western Jazz into their sonic tapestry.

Price: $12/$15
