Really enjoyed Dale Lawrence's Rock, Etc. in the August 9 issue; it's probably the best piece of criticism I've read about mashup bootlegs (and I've read a lot of them), and gets a lot of things right about their appeal (smashing the white rock/black pop dichotomy chief among them). Still, there are a couple minor errors I'd like to point out.
1. Unless the terminology has shifted even more than I had realized, "missies" aren't nicknames for boots in general; specifically, they're boots with Missy Elliott on them.
2. Lawrence writes of "My Name Is Funk Soul Brother," "The real star of the track...is the rhythm bed, whose supercool riff is derived only in part from the Fatboy Slim record (where the rest of it originated is anyone's guess)." The rest of it, in fact, originated on drum and bass artists Mickey Finn and Aphrodite's remix of "The Rockafeller Skank," titled "Mulder's Urban Takeover Remix." (It's available on the "Praise You" CD single.)
Otherwise, great job.
