Requiem for a Heavyweight

95 minutes

A classic of liberal humanist filmmaking (1962), and almost completely worthless. Anthony Quinn is the fighter gone to seed, slogging his way through his final matches. Rod Serling's script (based on his television play) has a cool, computerized perfection; it pumps out all the right dramatic equations, and ends as something polished, elegant, and airless. Directed by Ralph Nelson (Lilies of the Field); with Jackie Gleason and Mickey Rooney.
