Reservoir Dogs Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks The Short List (Theater)

When: Nov. 10-Dec. 10 2011

This stage version closely follows the 1992 Quentin Tarantino movie except that all the parts are played by women instead of men. As in the original, a bunch of peculiarly pop culture-obsessed criminals botch a jewelry heist because one of them is a psychopath and another is an undercover cop. Thanks to its unique casting, Cody Evans's staging for Roundhouse Productions avoids becoming a collection of impersonations of Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, and other easily caricatured stars of the film. The Roundhouse performers capture the rhythms of Tarantino's profanity-laden dialogue while putting their own spins on the roles. Alicia Queen's gravel-voiced ringleader is especially strong. But the pacing is off, the violence sloppy, and Tarantino's visual panache virtually absent. —Zac Thompson
