From humble beginnings in a Wicker Park storefront 21 years ago, Curious Theatre Branch's RhinoFest has galloped all over the north side--sometimes working out of multiple venues simultaneously, sometimes stretching to nearly two and a half months, and one year importing so many weird German artists that the whole thing almost went belly up. This time around the Curious curators are serving up Rhino concentrate: 27 way-out-of-the-mainstream shows in 25 days at a single theater. The lineup is a fringe fan's dream, with a heady mix of veterans and newbies, individuals and ensembles, performance art and opera. --Justin Hayford. See our reviews of the following shows: Action Spectacular, And Then It Burst, Decline of Ballooning and Madame X Paints Haydn Red, Determination, Imposters and Political Suicide, Johnny Ten Bones, Little Boy Needs Ride and Notes to Molly, Remembrance of Things Pontiac, Subject Matter Created and Destroyed and I’m in a Small Space for a Reason I Don’t Understand, Two Story Animal, and Under Ground and Coydog.
