Ride Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through April 3 2016

This new play by Neil Connelly unfolds in an Uptown bike shop in the weeks following the owner’s death in a car accident. The dead man’s straitlaced siblings, Danny and Molly, clash with the shop’s scruffy employees, Riley and Quill, over control of the business while all of them work through their grief in their separate ways. Though Connelly occasionally falls back on contrivance and cliche, he seems attuned to the city’s subculture of avid bicyclists and nails Uptown’s yuppies-vs.-vagrants dynamic. The best thing about Under the Rug Theatre Company’s staging—the group’s inaugural production—is its immersive set design by John Ross Wilson, who also directs. Meticulous in its grime, the place looks like it was air-lifted directly from Wilson and Broadway. —Zac Thompson
