When: Tue., Aug. 25, 8 p.m. 2009
Inspired as much by international giants Francis Bebey, Caetano Veloso, and Paul Simon as by under-recognized eclecticists Jolie Holland, Kristin Mueller, and Andrew Bird, Rob Reid has developed a style uniquely his own. Accompanied by Papagayo Automatico, an electronic parrot which mockingly repeats his mistakes in infinite loops of Afro/Brazilian beats and guitar riffs, he tells stories about robotic check-out clerks, rusted automobiles, Avondale taquerias, and public transportation in Ghana. Lacking basic driving skills and completely devoid of road sense, Rob's touring is limited to public transit accessible venues in Chicago. Kurt Helmbacher plays the second set at 9 pm.
