Recapitulation's latest show consists of a short improvised musical, a stand-up set by guest comic Keith Ecker, and a long improvised opera with costumes. Each has serious problems. Instead of building interesting characters or surprising narratives, the four improvisers I saw in the musical chased a few bad ideas into the ground. And I still can't figure out the aesthetics or themes of the opera--an ambiguous, tasteless mash-up of rock, goth, satanism, and the 1980s. Ecker was painful to watch. He looked dreadfully uncomfortable and continually distracted, yet clearly loved the spotlight. --Ryan Hubbard
