Presented by the Round Table Society, this five-night series of DVD-projected screenings opens with the U.S. premiere of Cristian Nemescu's California Dreamin' (Endless), which won the Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes; Nemescu was killed in a car accident earlier this year, but actors Armand Assante and Jamie Elman will attend (Sun 12/9, 7:30 PM). Also showing are Occident by Cristian Mungiu, director of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (Mon 12/10, 7:30 PM); Bless You, Prison! by Nicolae Margineanu (Tue 12/11, 7:30 PM); Stuff and Dough by Cristi Puiu, director of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (Wed 12/12, 7:30 PM); and Philanthropy by Nae Caranfil, which J.R. Jones describes as “a corrosively funny satire” set in a Romania “populated by idle rich, working poor, and a middle class consisting entirely of stray dogs” (Thu 12/13, 7:30 PM).
