“Roots and First Blooms: The Modern Japanese Print as Avant-Garde”

This seminar will examine the early period of modern Japanese prints, centering on issues of modernism, westernization and militarism, as well as artistic movements such as expressionism and abstraction. Artists showcased in the lecture will include Jun’ichiro Sekino, whose works are the focus of FWG’s breathtaking new exhibition of more than 100 works, running Dec. 3 to Jan. 14. Those attending the seminar will have the opportunity to view the complete exhibition as well. Admission to the seminar is complimentary, however reservations are required.
