The first of two weekends in this series, now in its tenth year, is devoted to Latin rhythms and movement. Perhaps the most unusual piece on this program is Ritmos de pies, a suite of ballet dances for nine dancers set to music by Arturo Marquez, Astor Piazzolla, and Jose Pablo Moncayo Garcia. Choreographer Paul Abrahamson of the Moose Project gently inflects classical movement with the drama and sweep of Latin dance, highlighting a flung arm here, an invisible partner there. Also on this program, "Latin-scape," are several dances by Ensemble EspaƱol Spanish Dance Theater artistic director Dame Libby Komaiko, among them No hay olvido--porque?, Ben amor, and Leyenda, and two pieces by Luna Negra artistic director Eduardo Vilaro, Ognat and Amor y dolor. The second weekend, called "Alone, Coupled and Bunched," features modern choreography by Venetia Stifler for Concert Dance, Inc. (The Chicago Project, Overwrought Over You, and The German Songs) and by Melissa Thodos for Melissa Thodos & Dancers (the new Vessels plus Tria, Chant, and a collaboration with Anthony Gongora, In Two Time). Friday and Saturday at 8 (the second weekend is Friday and Saturday, October 13 and 14, at 8) in the theater of Northside College Preparatory High School, 5501 N. Kedzie; $12-$15. Call 773-794-2787 for tickets, 773-794-6138 for tickets and information.
