Through a string of plot developments too convoluted to recount here, former cop Jason Statham takes a brainy Chinese girl under his wing and goes on the run from Russian gangsters, Chinese gangsters, and his estranged buddies in the NYPD. The poster for this rote actioner shows the star brandishing a gun whose barrel, by perspective, looks to be about the size of a commuter train, and that turns out to be a pretty good forecast for a movie in which nearly every encounter ends with a bullet in someone's head. Writer-director Boaz Yakin has a real hard-on for civic mayhem; in addition to the usual havoc-wreaking car chases, there are high-casualty gun battles in a swank restaurant and a Chinatown nightclub. With James Hong and Chris Sarandon.
