Sahara | Chicago Reader

Humphrey Bogart as a tank commander who's cut off behind the lines when the British army retreats; trying to catch up with the main force, he acquires a crew of other left behinds, and they attack a Nazi battalion. It's a sharp idea for a war movie, and it works nicely under Zoltan Korda's vigorous direction and Rudolph Mate's Eisenstein-flavored photography, though a windy script by John Howard Lawson (later of the Hollywood Ten) clogs things up. With Bruce Bennett, Lloyd Bridges, and Rex Ingram (1943). 97 min.
