Wayne and J.D. are two-thirds of a Neil Diamond tribute band until their best friend Darren starts dating a psychiatrist, who breaks up the band when she breaks down his will. So Wayne and J.D. hatch a plan to get her out of the way and fix Darren up with a warmhearted cheerleader he had a crush on in high school; among the problems with the plan is that the former cheerleader is about to become a nun. It's doubtful that the haste with which two actors of the same sex break away from a kiss in this comedy was in the script, but otherwise everybody stays in character, which is impressive given the manic range of some of the roles and the comic monotony of others. Dennis Dugan directed a screenplay by Greg DePaul and Hank Nelken; with Steve Zahn, Jason Biggs, Jack Black, Amanda Peet, Amanda Detmer, R. Lee Ermey, and Neil Diamond. 90 min.
