Dear Editor,

[Re: "Casualties of War," September 20]

Print this if you dare. I am in total agreement with our president about not relenting to terrorists. However, this last year--of arresting U.S. citizens without charges, beating and questioning them and then sometimes releasing them without even an apology--makes it quite clear to me that we have already relented to fear and become terrorists ourselves. Our terrorism is more covert. We don't do suicide bombs. Thank God for that. But barring that, the list of acts we won't commit is very short. Our sacred Constitution is being shot full of "loopholes" by the current administration. I think that our American freedoms are wonderful and I don't want anyone taking away those freedoms--not some foreign terrorists, not our own misguided domestic officials.

Sincerely,

Kim Crawford
