Sci-Fi Spectacular

Presented by Movieside and the Music Box, this fifth annual marathon of horror and sci-fi movies begins Sat 3/19 at 11:30 AM and runs for 14½ hours, wrapping up at 2 AM on Sun 3/20. Tickets are $25, $22 in advance at Music Box, 3733 N. Southport, or musicboxtheatre.com. Doors open at 11 AM for early access to the vending tables in the lobby, and patrons can leave and reenter the theater.

This year's lineup begins with a half-hour of vintage trailers, followed by Roger Corman's Not of This Earth (1957), about a vampire invading earth from outer space (noon); Peter Yates's Krull (1983), a quest fantasy in which a prince tries to free his bride from intergalactic invaders (1:45 PM); Critters 2: The Main Course (1988), with director Mick Garris in person (4:15 PM), David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch (1991), which managed to wrestle the William S. Burroughs classic onto the big screen (6:15 PM); Quentin Dupieux's Rubber (2010), about an auto tire with telepathic powers (8:30 PM); the 1988 remake The Blob, with director Chuck Russell in person (10 PM); and Paul W.S. Anderson's Event Horizon (1997), about astronauts journeying to Neptune to recover a lost spacecraft (midnight).
