Sea in the Blood

Canadian video maker Richard Fung directed this 2000 memoir of his older sister, who suffered from the rare, terminal blood disease thalassemia. Packed with photographs from his childhood and scenes from various travels, this gentle, intelligent account of a sister's illness offers an apology for youthful folly (Fung missed his sister's death because he refused to cut short a trip to Europe and Asia), and mourns his boyfriend's battle with another blood-borne disease, AIDS. 26 min.
