Second City's Dysfunctional Holiday Revue The Short List (Theater) Recommended

When: Mondays-Sundays. Continues through Dec. 26 2010

This hilarious seasonal sketch show by the Second City National Touring Company takes aim at such time-honored holiday traditions as binge drinking, family feuds, shopping mania, and people making New Year's resolutions they have no hope of keeping. Santa Claus makes several appearances; in one bit, the jolly old elf hits on a woman in a bar by recalling the presents he gave her when she was a child. Different ensembles perform in repertory; the cast I saw, directed by Sandy Marshall, featured Barry Hite, Michael Kosinski, Holly Laurent, Rachel Miller, and Eileen Montelione, who displayed crisp timing and first-rate physical comedy skills. Most impressive was the nimble-witted improv, which went beyond the standard audience-suggestion format to involve viewers in the action. --Albert Williams
