The surge in popularity of hookup apps like Tinder means straight people are now learning what gay men figured out using Grindr years ago: the digital dating pool is a weird, intimidating, often hilarious space. Slacktivist Abyss tries to skewer those and a handful of other aspects of 21st-century life in this hit-or-miss 60-minute sketch show directed by Amy Anderson. Finally working down to his last e-mail, an office drone experiences enlightenment and frozen time in the realm of "inbox zero." A group of gadget-obsessed first-worlders harmonize about their daily inconveniences. There are some unexpected chuckles—Brittany Flynn's subtle weirdness lightens a lot of moments—but some premises are DOA, like an intervention to cure a man's "fat chick" fixation, which, despite the implied irony, is still as cringe-inducing as it sounds. —Dan Jakes
