Sequins | Chicago Reader

A young supermarket cashier (Lola Naymark) hides her unwanted pregnancy for as long as possible, even concocting a story that she has cancer to throw her friends off the track. Luckily she finds solitude and solace as an apprentice to a respected embroiderer (Ariane Ascaride), who's mourning the recent death of her grown son. The calculated irony of the women's relationship is typical of this quiet, well-acted, eminently forgettable French feature by Eleonore Faucher; like their fine needlework, it seems it should be framed rather than worn. In French with subtitles. 88 min.
