Seriously Unprepared New Review (Theater and Comedy)

When: Fridays. Continues through Jan. 9 2015

Both of the performers in this late-night two-person improv show get laughs by undercutting the genial first impressions they make. Jo Scott finds a way to be both perky and edgy, while Jeff Murdoch uses his gentle demeanor and Campbell’s Soup Kid look to create a series of seemingly nice guys who turn out to be deeply creepy. The duo’s chemistry, charisma, and ability to surprise the audience keep things entertaining even when a sketch goes south. Still, they could probably stand to be less resolute about not abandoning an idea that's not working; on the night I saw the show, for instance, an awful lot of time was eaten up by a headed-nowhere premise having to do with bright purple semen. —Zac Thompson
