Short Eyes

Miguel Pinero's slice-of-prison-life stage play gets slick and conscientious treatment from director Robert M. Young. But the story of a suspected child molester (Bruce Davison) who becomes a pawn in a race war brewing in a New York lockup still conforms to the standard liberal lines. Well-acted, well-photographed, and well-directed, its sense of rage and realism is mitigated somewhat by the cliche characters and pat ending; with Jose Perez and Nathan George (1977).
