Chicago rapper Clinton Sandifer, aka ShowYouSuck, released the mixtape One Man Pizza Party 2: Mo Slices, Mo Problems a little more than a year ago, and he’s been on the rise ever since: he recently toured with Alabama MC Yelawolf, recorded a track with Mr. Muthafuckin’ Exquire, and premiered a song on MTV Hive. That site also hosted an exclusive stream of his latest mixtape, One Man Pizza Party III: Rest in Pizza (Ruby Hornet), that includes an interview in which he explains the preponderance of “pizza” in his mixtape titles—by latching on to a food that people relate to and enjoy, he means to subvert the champagne-sipping bottle-service ambience of rappers such as Rick Ross. Sandifer is nothing if not relatable, and he litters Rest in Pizza with pop-culture references that anyone who grew up with Beavis & Butthead can dig. He’s also got a flow like a bullwhip—despite his playful tone and springy delivery, which sounds great over Rest in Pizza’s bombastic, surging beats, every so often he’ll punctuate a line with a loud crack. —Leor Galil St. Millie and Warhound open.
