Shut In

The script for this thriller-in-name-only once appeared on the annual industry "Black List" survey of most- liked unproduced screenplays, which is where it should have stayed. A child psychologist (Naomi Watts) lives in splendid near-isolation in rural New England, caring for a bedridden teenage stepson (Charlie Heaton); after one of her clients, a deaf nine-year-old boy (Jacob Tremblay of Room), disappears in a heavy snowfall, she begins to witness sinister events inside her big old house, though her colleague (Oliver Platt) blithely dismisses her reports as symptoms of parasomnia. Farren Blackburn directed, but the sound department did the heavy lifting, milking everything that can go bump in the night.
