Sister | Chicago Reader

Rated NR 97 minutes 2012

Twelve-year-old Simon (Kacey Mottet Klein) haunts a Swiss ski chalet, ripping off skis and accessories to sell to his friends; with the cash he supports himself and his 20-something sister, Louise (Lea Seydoux), who can't get her act together. Their evolving, ambiguous relationship lies at the center of this absorbing French drama by Ursula Meier (Home), and Klein is wonderful as the young hustler, who enjoys being the breadwinner of the family. Martin Compston (the teenage lead in Ken Loach's Sweet Sixteen) plays an Irish worker who befriends Simon, and Gillian Anderson is a wealthy patron of the resort who tangles with the siblings. In French with subtitles.
