Skank, 9mm Solution, Still Fallen, Second Path, Boomslang Free Soundboard

When: Sat., Sept. 13, 9:15 p.m. 2008

When two bands end up with the same name, it’s usually pretty easy to decide who deserves it. (I mean, there couldn’t have been any question about who was more “Dinosaur” before J. Mascis added the “Jr.”) But it’s not that simple when it comes to the two Skanks: one is a popular Brazilian reggae band whose name was inspired by Bob Marley’s “Easy Skankin’,” and the other is a Chicago dude-metal act that’s apparently inspired exclusively by porn. This is a release party for our hometown sleazebags’ full-length debut, Confessions of a Failure (Bouncing Betty), whose chunky, greasy riffs and horny-bull bellowing might actually carry the kinds of diseases people used to worry about catching from toilet seats. —Monica Kendrick
