Slender Man

In this generic horror item, four teenage girls use the Internet to summon a bogeyman they’ve heard about in an urban legend. The girls are so poorly defined that they’re practically interchangeable; when the bogeyman starts making them disappear one by one, you may not realize at first that any of them are gone. The monster also has the power to make his victims hallucinate before they disappear, which provides director Sylvain White with a perfect opportunity to display some visual imagination. Unfortunately White misses the opportunity—the movie is never very interesting to look at. It isn’t interesting to think about either, since White and screenwriter David Birke fail to imbue the story with any subtext.
