Sockhopapocalypse Member Picks New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays. Continues through July 22 2012

Following some unspecified cataclysm, a group of rambunctious, musically inclined young people holes up in a bar while killer bees and zombies rampage through the streets outside. The kids' efforts at self-governance soon turn nasty and brutish in this riff on William Golding's Lord of the Flies, presented by Times Three Theatre and Hootenany Productions. Amanda Batterson and Kasey O'Brien's chaotic staging begins with screaming but ends with a whimper. In between, there's some spirited slapstick and a batch of sweetly mournful original songs performed by the cast to their own accompaniment on acoustic guitars, ukuleles, toy flutes, and other instruments. The performers fully commit to the goofy savagery of the premise, but the collaboratively written script feels formless and unfinished. —Zac Thompson
