Sound of Yellow | Chicago Reader

Sound of Yellow

A Chicago recording engineer with a day job working for construction companies agrees to travel to Poland and inspect some buildings in progress. His tests show that the buildings are unsafe, and as a result many Poles find themselves out of work. After his return flight is delayed, the protagonist wanders around Lodz, fixes amps for a rock band, and beds a woman painter, and soon Poland doesn't seem so “ugly” after all. Local filmmaker Paul Hettel directed this DV feature; his images illustrate the story rather than energize it, a method more appropriate to a tightly scripted narrative than to this meandering journey. 75 min.
