Soundtrack | Donny's Skybox Studio | Improv/Sketch | Chicago Reader

When: Fridays. Continues through March 6 2009

Improvisers Tom Blandford and Mark Piebenga begin their show by borrowing an audience member's music player. Each scene then starts with them dancing to a random song snippet, and launching the action from whatever position they're in when the music's cut off. Despite the range of possibilities allowed by this conceit, most settings were banal when I saw the show--office, apartment, subway/bus--and the scenes themselves were often disappointingly uninventive. Admirably, Blandford and Piebenga don't go for quick, easy laughs; but in their effort to create complex, character-based humor, they usually end up with boring bits. T.J. Jagodowski directs, but not enough. --Ryan Hubbard
