Osama Qashoo, a Palestinian living in London, journeyed to Havana to shoot this video documentary (2007, 59 min.) about a street musician from Cuba's east end, or “Orient.” The class divide separating the island's two halves is a more intriguing subject than the musician, sympathetic though he may be. Also screening are Qashoo's Inside Outside (2005, 24 min.), about Palestinian youngsters assimilating into British culture, and No Choice Basis (2006, 14 min.), poignant for its extreme close-ups of the homesick video maker talking to his younger sister long-distance. Subtitled.
