Nurtured by the Baltimore house scene, which also produced Philly's Hollertronix, and venerated for explosive, booty-shaking 12-inches like "Put That Pussy on Me," Spank Rock have finally released their long-awaited full-length debut, YoYoYoYoYoYo (Big Dada). And like walking into the middle of a room and dumping a Ziploc full of coke on the coffee table, it's a certifiable party starter. The record's voracious, genre-smashing, funky-times-ten production--courtesy of programmer Armani XXXchange and cut creators Christopher Rockswell and Ronnie Darko, the group's newest member--owes as much to 2 Live Crew, dirty south, and D.C. go-go as it does to B-more house. But it's the K-Y lubed, hyperspeed rhymes and riotous non sequiturs of MC Spank Rock (aka Naeen Juman) that push the RetardoMeter into the red. Try not to crack up when he matter-of-factly repeats "I tapped the ho" in his oddly high-pitched voice against the stark beat of "Backyard Betty." I've only listened to Spank Rock on my home system but these guys have got to sound hellacious with some wattage and woofers behind them. Kid Sister and Rik Shaw open. Tue 4/18, 9:30 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, 773-276-3600 or 866-468-3401, $10.
