Spike & Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation 2007

More misses than hits make up this edition of the Spike & Mike festival, a brand defined by snark, gore, penis jokes, and jiggling breasts. Among the more sophomoric animations are Adam Ansorage's Tittybop, which equates a woman's breasts with the old schoolyard game tetherball, and Sean Scott's Legend of Raggot, which recycles the urban legend about gays and gerbils. But there are some real finds: Brad Neely's caustic, rap-fueled Cox & Combes' Washington provides a revisionist take on George Washington; J.G. Quintel's 2 in the AM PM stands out with its fine line drawing and shading; and Mike Grimshaw's witty One D is a minimalist lesson on the world of animation BC (before computers). 96 min.
