Spring Awakening Music Festival: Moby, Nero, R3hab, John Dahlback, Paul Universe, and others All Ages Recommended Soundboard Image

When: Fri., June 14, 3:30 p.m. 2013

At some point during the weekend I spent at last year’s debut of the Spring Awakening electronic-music festival at Soldier Field, the part of me that was attending in order to satisfy a detached, anthropological curiosity about modern EDM culture at its most epic cracked and fell away, and I found myself legitimately having a blast dancing on a football field surrounded by thousands of jocks wearing “Sex & Drugs & Dubstep” T-shirts. (No, MDMA wasn’t involved.) It turns out that three days of music meant to make you have a good time in an arena full of people there to have a good time is actually pretty fun. Who knew? This year’s lineup is once again a blend of hot-shit modern artists (Boys Noize, Porter Robinson, local heroes Flosstradamus), Chicago club staples (Porn & Chicken, Trentino, DJ Intel), and dance-music legends (Green Velvet, Paul Oakenfold, Moby) who ought to provide compelling history lessons to the kids in YOLO hats. —Miles Raymer Today’s lineup includes Moby, Nero, R3hab, John Dahlback, and Paul Universe.
