Spring Awakening Music Festival Early Warnings (Music) Recommended Soundboard Image

When: Fri., June 12, Sat., June 13 and Sun., June 14 2015

Here’s the drop: the Spring Awakening Music Festival returns to Soldier Field for its fourth year. The mammoth three-day blowout celebrates DJs and producers who roll out tracks with skull-cracking bass attacks, and EDM fans should have a pretty solid grasp of the lineup—several of the artists have played Spring Awakening before, and a full eight of the top 15 names on the bill are return acts. It’s not the first rodeo for Diplo, for example. The Mad Decent honcho, global electronic booster, and vitriolic viral personality is on his third go-round, and he performs twice on Saturday. He’ll do a solo set and join EDM poster boy Skrillex to perform as Jack U, which makes its midwest debut. While party-happy Israeli producer Borgore and melancholic Canadian duo Adventure Club are among the performers catering in supersize synth windups and bludgeoning drums, many of the 100-plus acts don’t fit in with contemporary EDM. Detroit house champ MK and local house heroes Derrick Carter and Cajmere turn Sunday into a palatable trip through the swarming masses of young, scantily clad revelers. And we’ll always break for Chicago dance kings Flosstradamus (who play Saturday), even if it means we have to surpass our Diplo quota for the weekend. —Leor Galil Spring Awakening begings on Friday 6/12.
