The cast members of Star Trek: The Next Generation hang up their phasers with this reasonably entertaining if utterly familiar entry in the long-running SF franchise. Dragging the Enterprise into one last crisis, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) journeys to the planet Romulus, whose new ruler has extended an olive branch to the Federation, and butts heads with a sinister young clone of himself. The motivational chant this time around is that all humans have the impulse to better themselves, though apparently screenwriters are exempt. Stuart Baird directed; with Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Levar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Ron Perlman, and Tom Hardy. PG-13, 116 min.
