Greg Fox has established himself as one of the east coast's premier artsy-weirdo drummers—he was an important cog in Dan Deacon's live ensemble, for instance, used to be a core member of lightning-rod black-metal band Liturgy, and just joined Zs. Fox left Liturgy last fall to focus on Guardian Alien, an extreme psychedelic group that grew out of a noisy solo project called GDFX, and it's given him a chance to really let his freak flag fly. Guardian Alien's new See the World Given to a One Love Entity (Thrill Jockey) is one long, expansive jam that combines bombastic blastbeats, discordant zither, reverb-drenched and sometimes wordless vocals, sustained and meandering guitar, and dark, lush synth. Considering that listening to See the World at home is enough to induce a meditative trance that lasts nearly 40 minutes, it's pretty much a no-brainer that the live show will be an out-of-body experience. —Leor Galil Starring headlines; Guardian Alien and E+ open.
