Jason Lee (Chasing Amy, Vanilla Sky) plays a good-hearted guy who needs $30,000 to underwrite his niece's first year at Harvard, and Tom Green (Road Trip, Freddie Got Fingered) is his doofus buddy, who comes up with a series of loopy and felonious schemes to steal the money. Their plans are complicated by a crotch-biting pit bull, a detective with unusual rectal-hygiene habits, and a wealthy widower who forces burglars to don his late wife's nightie and spoon with him. Director Bruce McCulloch, an alumnus of the Canadian TV show The Kids in the Hall, lacks the sense of scale and timing needed for a feature film, and Lee's voice-over about fate that brackets the narrative only highlights its shapelessness. Among the squandered supporting cast are Dennis Farina, Chris Penn, Megan Mullally, and Seymour Cassel. 83 min.
