Ruby Dee is an elderly widow inching toward a romance with an upstanding neighbor, Ally Sheedy is a divorced mom lusting after her son's hunky young football coach, and newcomer Kate Siegel is a college student whose strict Catholic parents don't know she's fallen for an aggressive lesbian classmate. All three actresses turn in good work—seeing Dee in a central role is especially gratifying—but they're soundly defeated by Kyle Schickner's ham-fisted script and artless direction. The characters are linked only by their common patronage of the steam room at a local health club; oddly, Schickner keeps this interaction to a minimum, forfeiting the shared perspective that might have given each of their stories a little more resonance. 118 min.
