Still Alice

All but groveling for an Oscar nomination, Julianne Moore stars as a linguistics professor trying to maintain her dignity after she's diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. This middlebrow drama presents the heroine's mental deterioration calmly and sensitively, though it feels pretty thin on the whole. In a climactic moment, Moore describes her newfound philosophy as "Live in the moment and try to master the art of losing," one of many lines that sound as if they were taken from a self-help book. Directors Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland (QuinceaƱa) adapted a novel by Lisa Genova; with Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, and Kate Bosworth.
