When gossip outlet TMZ abushed Chief Keef in November 2013, the world got a taste of a brand-new Keefism: “I growed up—I glo-ed up, I mean.” “Glo” has since infiltrated Keef’s persona, and in 2014 he ditched Glory Boyz Entertainment, aka GBE, for a new label called Glo Gang. His turn of phrase has also popped up in the language of hip-hop at large. A few months ago, Chicago streetwear designer extraordinaire Joe Fresh Goods—of Fat Tiger Workshop, Dope Boy Magic, and Vita USA, formerly Vita Morte—launched a run of “Glo Up” hoodies and T-shirts for tykes. The crisp design is as striking as it is simple; most items are one bold color (even the tie-dyed T-shirts are monochrome) with the words dont grow up just glo up emblazoned on the left breast of each shirt or hoodie. It’s a charming reminder that you can (and should) go your own way—and the pieces look pretty damn adorable on kids. They come in adult sizes too, though you’ll have to track those down—I picked one up at Fat Tiger Workshop’s now-shuttered Logan Square store during its final days, just before the boutique moved to its new home at 1043 W. Grand, in the West Loop.
