Striking Distinctions

Dear editor:

Thanks go to Michael Miner for his report on actor Danny Goldring's pursuit of strike-breaking scabs and his harrowing encounters with "good ol' boy" law enforcement in the wilds of Idaho (Hot Type, July 21). It reminded me of the line from the song "Union Maid": "Deputy sheriffs who made the raids."

One small correction to the article: Miner refers to the issue of "pay for play." No matter which way the strike ends, SAG/AFTRA members will continue to receive pay for play. We're striking to preserve our right to get pay-per-play, a residual payment each time a commercial spot runs. That's a crucial distinction.
