I assume the Robbie Fulks story about his audit [December 15] was intended as a humorous anecdote illustrating the "difficult and noble" struggle of the "artiste" versus The Man, but my take away was that Robbie is a pretty stupid guy.
This was not his first audit, yet he shows up without proper documentation, and it's the auditor who's the jerk?!? Hey Robbie, a few words of advice: get a tax preparer who is familiar with your profession. His/her fee will be reasonable ($150-ish) as well as tax deductible, and he/she will most likely help you to include deductions that you either didn't think of or didn't know of. And, since they sign your return, they have to stand by you in case of an audit. Nan Warshaw is a savvy businesswoman; if you had thought to consult her on the issue I'm sure she would have had a few suggestions...I'd give you the number of mine, but I'm tired of hearing about your bland uninteresting music and hope you go away soon.
Better luck next year!
