SubUrbia Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Recommended Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Aug. 30 2015

If you can imagine God spitting out his beer and a band of suburban lowlifes emerging from the foam like a slacker Birth of Venus, you have playwright Eric Bogosian's two-act comedy-drama. A year after prom, dropout Jeff and his going-nowhere friends wait in a minimart parking lot for high school pal Pony, a folk music geek turned successful rock star who's back in town for a concert. Though the action culminates in unnecessary violence ("apocalypse is the ultimate male fantasy," as one female character informs us), all the acting in this Level 11 production, directed by Justin Baldwin, is exceptionally high energy (especially Colin David's postmodern village idiot, Buff) and absolutely buoyant, even when characters come to us weighed down with depressingly high hopes. —Jena Cutie
