Sugar Sammy, aka Samir Khullar, is coming out of the long shadow cast by fellow Indo-Canadian comic Russell Peters. They share a slick look, and their acts are sometimes indistinguishable when it comes to mocking Indian/Pakistani dorkiness and white America's ignorance, but Sammy's chops are sharper and he's got more everyman charm. He differentiates himself with a focus on the dynamics of race that suggests a desi Dave Chappelle (for whom he’s opened). But he's most entertaining when he discusses his other favorite topic, relationships. He'd like to be more of a player, he's complained, but his mother and sister have made him a nice guy. Attempting to strike a balance, he tells a date, "Why don’t we split the bill? And if we sleep together, I'll refund you."
