To the editor:
The untimely death of Jerry Sullivan is a palpable loss to natural conservation and the written word. Without question Jerry was a shining light in both areas. His writings (including the Reader's Field & Street) constitute nothing short of a lay ministry. As one of the many who followed his columns month after month, I can say firsthand: He opened minds and shaped perceptions with prose that often had to be read twice, the first time to absorb the profound content, the second time to hear the music. Jerry, rest assured, your inspired efforts won lifelong converts to your cause.
