In a recent reflection on the first time she had sex, New Yorker staff writer Ariel Levy described the act as “so underwhelming, so strikingly devoid of the blissful, painful, or intensely emotional sensations I’d been promised, I wondered what was wrong with everyone for imbuing intercourse with so much import.” Ouch! For their sake, we hope that the scribes on tonight’s bill at Summer Lovin’: Stories of Sex, Sweat . . . and Romance have had better luck. For the sake of the story, though, we might anticipate otherwise—event sponsor the Chicago Story Collective promises “an evening of totally true tales of awkward devirginations, carnal pleasure, and puppy love.” Storytellers are Keith Ecker, Alyson Lyon, Dana Norris, and Jen Bosworth. There’s also a performance by burlesque troupe Vaudezilla, and Q&A with my favorite (sorry, Dan Savage) sex advice columnist, Debby Herbenick.
