Support Your Local Artists

To the editors:

I get the feeling when I read [Lewis Lazare's] column [The Culture Club] that you are writing the obituary of Chicago theatre in serialized installments. Is your job as a journalist simply to sling mud on the industry that provides your livelihood? In these times of censorship and extreme conservatism, the Arts have enough problems without the added burden of petty negative press. I dare you, I beg you, please use your influence and power as a member of the press to support the cultural development of this city. Gossip can be fun, but how long can anyone really take it seriously? Help the theatre community and help yourself, or we all lose.
