Enter the new Wrigleyville outpost of the local barbecue franchise and you're greeted by multiple ribbons and trophies, tributes to what your server will make sure you know is an award-winning team manning a Southern Pride smoker. But with the variety of offerings—not just Texas, but Kansas City, Memphis, Alabama, and Carolina style—it seems like this branch is attempting to be all things to all people (Cubs fans especially; there are TVs everywhere, the men's restroom included). A standout among the usual wings and nachos, the Eggs & Bacon was deviled eggs made with house-brand "Duces Wild" mustard sauce and topped with house-smoked bacon—sweet, tangy, rich, and uncomplicated all at once. Our server told us that these and the surprisingly light fried pickles were "scratch-made," and they tasted like it. The barbecue itself was something of an anticlimax. Pulled pork was mostly tender and juicy, with a smattering of chewy browned bits, but a tad salty and more heavily sauced than I like. "Sweet Baby Ray's Award Winning Ribs" were dry and not as "meaty" as the description on the menu would lead you to believe, with a very mild smoke flavor. The meat of all this? We might return for appetizers and drinks before a game—there are craft beers and a "wall of whiskey" to be explored.
